Career Outlook

Service, excellent service that is, is arguably the most important aspect of conducting business. It starts and ends with the customer. In an ever-growing, competitive world, consumers are exposed to a multitude of different products offering various benefits, features, bells, and whistles all trying to achieve the same goal: attain that customer.

However, without delivering impeccable customer service the first time, you can almost guarantee that you have lost that customer, possibly forever.

The Automotive Industry is no exception to this highly competitive, flooded market of consumer choice possibilities. It has become essential for those working in the front end to ensure an extremely high level of customer service and satisfaction is achieved. Customer retention is just as important as obtaining them due to the mass availability of service and repairs elsewhere.

This diligent approach to customer service now demands an extremely high level of care in recruiting new personnel to work in the front lines. Industry management relies heavily on formal training to guarantee their customers receive service second to none.

Did you know…?

In addition, analysis of the growth requirements in Canada have indicated that the Sales and Service sectors are the leaders in new job creation, requiring 31% of all new jobs created.

Source: 1998 Labour Force Survey and the COPS Demand Model (1999).

The Service sector will experience continuous growth in employment opportunities between now and 2007. Parallel to strong growth in automotive ownership during the period, this occupation has experienced a huge growth. It was reported that it grew 154% since 1994.

Due to increased economic activity and heavy retirement new job openings are escalating at an above average rate. Service Canada cites "Sales and Service, and Business, Finance and Administration will account for more than 45% of all retirements over the next five years."

Source: Jobfutures.ca, Applied Research Branch, HRDC and Statistics Canada.

Career Outlooks for those occupations in the service sector of the automotive industry will experience a strong demand because of 2 major influencing factors: One is the significant growth and expected trends of the automotive industry and the second is the shortages in service occupations as a whole.

Fixed Operations Graduate
I came out of an installation bay and coming into the motorcycle industry is a lot harder than going into the automotive industry from what I heard. It’s a lot more specific and I got in here on my own merit with the course so yea it’s helped a lot.
